Work done

The library has adopted open access system, well established catalogue code (AACR2) and memorable classification codes(DDC 21th Edn.). Automation of library is very necessary and useful for users in searching dissemination and acquiring of knowledge in a minimal time. The VIT library has fully computerized and all the activities are being carried out using free library management system (E-Granthalaya software) which borrowed from National Informatics center Bangalore. We have saved approximately more than Rs. 4 Lakhs to the Management by doing Library automation.

I have assisted, the staff, National Informatics center for changing the models in E-Granthalaya software which gives the effective services for users in the IT environment.

The library books/materials of VIT were bar-coded for easy access of documents/ information and we have issued the bar-coded library Identity cards to users. Automated library circulation counters are made with modern technology for issue/renewal/return the books, back volumes, project reports, journals, CD’s etc., in minimal time.

Nature of work responsibility

As a Librarian, I have been taken responsibilities of all the activities of different sections of library & information Center. The responsibilities are as follows:

 • Cataloguing and Classification of Documents & Digital contents

 • Indexing and Abstracting

 • Documentation

 • Digitization of Print Collections

 • Searching Network Data bases in digital sources and websites

 • Content writing

 • Webpage Design & Maintains

Completely Involved in designing the VKIT WebPages, to identified open source e-Journals & e-books and Dissemination of Digital Information to our users through LAN.

Projects On-going

The Use of Electronic Services in Libraries. It includes:

 • Access to open source electronic journals

 • Word processing packages

 • Excel and other statistical packages

 • Links to local networks

 • Bibliographic software

 • Digitized books and journals
