Overview:

Information science is an interdisciplinary science primarily concerned with the analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information. Information science focuses on understanding problems from the perspective of the stakeholders involved and then applying information and other technologies as needed. To create the Information science professionals Vivekananda Institute of technology pioneer the Department of Information science in the year 1998 with the sanctioned intake of 60 students. The department at VKIT is creating tomorrow's knowledge society. Students, faculty, and staff collaborate to unite technology, people, and information to make a fundamental difference in this knowledge society a society in which citizens collaboratively and freely create and share knowledge and utilize information and technology to promote growth, prosperity, and well-being. Through coursework and real-world experience, research and teaching, the department educates citizens and leaders who will be the foundation of this knowledge society. The faculty is a diverse group of thought leaders in numerous fields including computer science, engineering, chemistry, Physics, and more. Through their varied expertise, they are jointly helping to guide and direct the course of development of the entire field of information sciences and technology.

Mission:

• To impart quality education in information Science and Engineering for evolving software professionals with    technical competence, strong character, professional ethics and holistic approach to manage ever expanding    knowledge horizon.
• Disciplined and Integrated Development of Personality through Academic Excellence, Sports and cultural    activities.
• To strive for student achievement and successes, preparing them for life and leadership.

Short Term Goals:

• To achieve excellence in education by obtaining very good results in university examinations.
• To promote faculty and students to present and publish papers in conferences and journals.
• To arrange national conferences and personality development workshop for students to improve technical    and communication skills.

Long Term Goals:

• To establish research centre in the department to promote in house research and to get funding from    various funding agencies.
• To improve industry interaction programme to collaborate with industries.
• To start postgraduate programme in information science.

• The Dept of ISE/CSE has jointly organized a two-day workshop on Compiler Design on 19th and 20th     February 2009.
• The Dept of ISE/CSE has jointly organized a two-day workshop on Embedded Computing Systems on 27th     and 28th July 2009.
• The Dept of ISE/CSE has conducted soft skill training programme for students under campus connect     Program tied with Infosys Bangalore.
•  Dept of ISE has arranged Parent-Teachers meet on 22/05/2010.
